2026-2027 Programming

In the context of its call for submissions for 2026-2027 Programming, Vaste et Vague invites artists at all stages of their careers, regardless of geographic location or medium, to submit proposals for exhibitions or research and creation residencies. Located in the maritime landscape of Carleton-sur-Mer, between sea and mountains, Vaste et Vague encourages the diversification of contemporary arts in the Gaspésie region, supporting research and experimentation. In line with its mission, Vaste et Vague will ensure a diverse program that reflects the plurality of current artistic practises.

Exhibitions
Proposals for contemporary art exhibitions submitted by curators, artists, and collectives are eligible. They may include public activities such as lectures, workshops, performances, etc. Exhibitions produced as part of our regular programming last 5 to 6 weeks.
Research and Creation Residencies
The goal of our residency program is to offer artists a space and time dedicated to research, experimentation, and creation. A presentation (presentation of the creative process, workshop, performance, etc.) is planned at the end of the two-week residency. The artist will have access to a room in the artist residence and will share common areas (kitchen, living room-studio) with other artists in residence, if applicable. If necessary, the artist can rent studio space or additional specialized equipment at Quai des arts (ceramic kiln, engraving press).
Residency + exhibition
Artists may also submit a proposal for a residency (2 weeks) followed by an exhibition (4 weeks). For these, exhibition projects must be developed with the specific characteristics of the Center in mind, meaning that projects that cannot be realized in another venue will be given priority.
Condition
Vaste et Vague believes in the importance of offering good conditions to invited artists and respects current recommendations and rates. For 2026 and 2027, selected projects will benefit from the following conditions:
Exhibition fees : According to CARFAC rates in effect for 2026 and 2027.
Residency fee : A fee of $1,500, including production costs, will be paid to artists for a two-week residency.
Transportation : Travel expenses for the artist and transportation of the artwork will be reimbursed up to a maximum of $1,000 upon presentation of supporting documents. Vaste et Vague is located in Carleton-sur-Mer, nearly 800 km from Montreal, in a region with limited public transportation.
Technical assistance : Artists will receive technical assistance for the installation and dismantling of exhibitions. However, artists are responsible for installing and dismantling their respective exhibitions and must therefore be on site for installation and dismantling.
Lodging : Artists are provided with free accommodation at the artists’ residence, a fully equipped house located a few minutes’ walk from the Vaste et Vague Artists’ Centre. Please note that other artists may be sharing the residence at the time of your stay. Fees apply for any additional persons according to the current rates.
Living expenses : Artists are offered $50 per day for installation days.
Cultural mediation : Artists who wish to do so may offer workshops or activities for schools or community members. The Center offers a fee of $365 for a workshop or conference.
Production fees : Production fees of up to $500 will be offered to artists selected for an exhibition, upon presentation of supporting documents.
Workshop : Vaste et Vague does not have a fully equipped workshop. Artists can work in the exhibition space or in an available space in the Center’s offices. Work tables are located in each of the rooms of the residence, and a shared living room/studio is also available. Specialized studios can be rented nearby as needed (ceramics, press, painting studio).
Documentation : The Centre will provide photographic documentation of the exhibitions.
Evaluation criteria
The evaluation of submissions and selection will be carried out by a committee of professionals from the contemporary arts sector. The evaluation criteria are :
- The artistic quality of the project, as well as the originality and relevance of its statement;
- The value of the project’s intention in relation to the artist’s artistic approach;
- The overall assessment of the visual portfolio;
- The relevance of the statement in relation to the mandate of Vaste et Vague;
- The technical aspect, feasibility, and achievability of the project.
The committee also ensures the inclusion of member artists, emerging artists, Indigenous artists, women and gender-diverse artists, as well as the integration of international artists. In addition, the Centre continues to maintain a judicious balance between promoting the work of artists from the Gaspésie region and artists from outside the region, at the provincial and national levels. These criteria guide the selection process, enabling us to build a rich programming that is closely aligned with our mission.
Artists who have submitted a proposal can expect to receive a response, whether favorable or unfavorable, via email.
How to submit an application
To submit a proposal, artists and curators are asked to fill out the form available here before Thursday November 20th, 2025, 11:59 pm.
They must submit the following materials:
- Project description
- Artists’ statement
- Floor plan (optional)
- Curriculum vitae
- A maximum of 15 images or 10 minutes of video
Only proposals submitted through the online form before the deadline will be considered. Those requiring technical assistance in completing the form are invited to contact the Centre’s team.
